    Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic professionals to join our specialty practice as an ICU technician or Surgery technician. Qualified candidates will have skills and work experience equivalent to a Registered Veterinary Technician. The qualified candidate will also have a minimum of 3 years of work experience as a technician in a specialty practice or a critical care environment. Candidates must be people-oriented, compassionate and work well on a team. Various shifts are available. Our practice includes surgery, oncology, internal medicine, general practice and emergency medicine, serving our community for over 50 years.     We are currently seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant.


    Some of the responsibilities associated with this position may include, but are not limited to:

    Initiating emergency procedures as needed, including CPR on animals
    Demonstrate safe, humane restraint techniques of patients
    Calculate drug dosages, ranging from basic to complex
    Perform Phlebotomy or Cystocentesis procedures proficiently
    Perform IV catheterization proficiently
    Process in-house and outside pharmacy requests as prescribed
    Explain treatment estimates and invoices to clients
    Receive telephone calls from clients and answer clinical questions as directed

    Basic required qualifications:

    High school diploma required and minimum 3 years clinical experience in veterinary industry
    Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients using tact, patience, professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion where appropriate
    Consistent and reliable ability to perform mathematical calculations
    Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60-days of hire or transfer into this role; (this requirement is waived if incumbent holds a valid CA-RVT license)

    Must be able to work weekends and some holidays
